Before You Start

Hardware considerations: Mage Duel is designed to be launched and played on desktop computers (Mac/PC). Tablets/mobile devices are unsupported.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Part 1: Create Mage Duel game account through the Learning Management System (LMS)
Goal: Create your Mage Duel (TUTORWORKS) account credentials.
Step 1:

Enter your account information, create a 15 character password, then click CREATE ACCOUNT
Step 3:
On the next page, enter your newly created username and password
Step 4:
On the next screen, click the DOWNLOAD ON STEAM button to go to Steam
Note 1: If you already have Steam on your personal computer, skip to Step 3.
Note 2: Organization-Managed Devices: If you are not using a personal device, your organization may restrict installing applications such as Steam. If you are unable to install Steam or Mage Duel, contact your IT department or supervisor for instructions on installing Mage Duel on your organization-issued computer.
Part 2: Set up a Steam account
Goal: Open Steam on your desktop computer, then sign in to your Steam account.
Step 1:
Download Steam for your desktop device by navigating to the Steam site here.
Step 2:
Once downloaded, click the app icon to launch the Steam application on your computer.
Step 3:
Sign in to Steam using your Steam account credentials.
Part 3: Download Mage Duel from Steam
Goal: Download and install Mage Duel through your Steam Library.
Step 1:
Download Steam for your desktop device by navigating to the Steam site here.
Step 2:
Scroll down then click Join the Playtest
Step 3:
Click Play Now in Access Granted popup
Step 4:
Make sure you have enough memory available on your device, then click Install
Step 5:
You can now find and select Mage Duel in your list of owned games by navigating to the Library tab. Mage Duel will be listed in the left-side panel.
Troubleshooting
● If Steam is not installed, download it from the official Steam site and install it first.
● If logging into Steam fails, reset your password through Steam.
● If Steam requests email or mobile verification, complete that step before continuing.
Part 3: Launch the Game, Sign in, and Start Playing
Goal: Open Steam on your desktop computer, then sign in to your Steam account.
In your Library, select Mage Duel from the left-hand panel

If Mage Duel has not yet been installed, select Install and wait for the installation to complete.
Step 3:
Once the game is installed, select PLAY to launch the game and begin playing.
Step 4:
Sign in to the game using your Mage Duel (TUTORWORKS) credentials.
Step 5:
Once logged in, select New Adventure to create a new character.
Step 6:
Select your language in the top-left corner of the screen. Available languages include Arabic, Chinese, and Russian.
Step 7:
Select your gender in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
Enter a name for your character, then select Create.

The objective of the Learning Management System (LMS) is to help you direct your own language learning by viewing your statistics and providing additional practice outside of the game. Accessing the Web Version
● Navigate to https://app.tutorworks.net/
● Enter your credentials to login (username and password)
Accessing the Mobile Version: Step-by-Step Download Guide
The downloaded version uses a progressive web application (PWA) for a more native experience on mobile devices. Once set up, the TUTORWORKS app appears on your device. Follow these steps to download and install the mobile LMS application
1. Access the Platform:
● Navigate to https://app.tutorworks.net/ on your device.
● Enter your credentials to login
● On the LMS homepage, click the download button at the top right for instructions specific to your device.
2. Download and Launch:
● Once the download is complete, tap the TUTORWORKS app icon to open the app. Enter your credentials to access the LMS.

Set Up Practice Content
Step 1: Sign in and open My Practice
Sign in with your Mage Duel account. Select the book icon in the left navigation to open your lessons.
Step 2: Add an existing DLI lesson
On My Practice, select +, choose From Library, open the appropriate DLI collection, check one or more lessons, and select Add.
TIP: Select the play button on a lesson card to try the vocabulary practice as a learner.
Enter the topic, level, word count, and language.
Step 3: Explore the ready-to-use DLI content
Your teacher account includes DLI course lessons in Arabic, Mandarin, and Russian. Select Show 5 More to browse additional lessons, or select a lesson card to open it.
Step 4: Create a custom lesson
Select the + tile, choose Create New, enter a clear title, and choose the language from the drop-down menu. Then select Generate with AI or Add Vocabulary.
Step 5: Generate and review vocabulary
Enter a specific topic or domain, select the ILR level, number of words (up to 20), and target language. Select Generate Vocabulary, add the vocabulary to the lesson, then review the proposed words and edit any item as needed.
TIP: Specific prompts work best - for example: “aircraft maintenance, propeller, engine, warning lights, pitch"
Enter the topic, level, word count, and language.
Review, then edit or delete the generated content.
Step 6: Set learning priorities
Select the + tile, choose Create New, enter a clear title, and choose the language from the drop-down menu. Then select Generate with AI or Add Vocabulary.
Create A Class and Enroll Learners
Step 1: Create a class
Select the graduation-cap icon in the left navigation. Select Add Class, choose Class, enter a descriptive name, and select Add. Then select the new class to open its roster.
Step 2: Add an existing learner or teacher
Inside the class, select Add Member. Choose the position (Student or Teacher), confirm the class, search for the person, and add the correct account.
TIP: Select the play button on a lesson card to try the vocabulary practice as a learner.
Step 3: Invite a new learner
Select “Can’t find the person? Invite them here.” Choose the role, then share the invitation code, link, or QR code. Note the expiration date shown in the invitation window.

Review Learner Preformance
Step 1: Open Metrics
Select the Metrics icon in the left navigation. Choose a class, then select a learner to view progress. The Mage Duel Training Class is a shared demonstration space with sample learners and results. Use it to become familiar with the metrics views; you do not need to create a class to explore the LMS.
Step 2: Review summary and lesson-level results
Use the competence bars for a quick view of Vocabulary, Reading and Writing, and Translation. Open a competency or lesson for more detailed activity and performance information.
TIP: Swipe or scroll through the learner avatars to select another learner.
Select a competency bar to move from the class overview to more detailed results.
REMEMBER: DLI Open Cohort content and the Mage Duel Training Class are provided for exploration. Lessons you create or add under My Practice remain easy to find at the top of the page.
